Don't cry to quit! Cry to keep going!

When I feel like complaining....
When I feel like whining....
When I feel like I don't have what it takes...
When I feel like I'm not good enough...
When I feel like giving up...
When I feel like half-assing it...
When I feel like taking the easy way out...
When I feel tired...
When I feel like doing nothing...

i listen to this guy.

Then I go back to sewing, drawing, writing...

Oh, Back to School...Back to school

I start my second semester at West Valley today.  I can't say that I'm excited because I've been sick this past weekend. Although I feel somewhat slightly less sick, it will be a long day because I have class from 10:55am to 7pm.

My classes:
FD 52B      Fabrics Analysis II -  A continuation of Fabrics Analysis I (duh) where we understand fabric behavior, determine which fabrics are appropriate for specific apparel designs and purposes, and, create fabric designs.
FD 64         Fashion Draping - Creating garments on the dressform through the use of draping.
DM/IS 21   Web Development I - Designing websites through the use of HTML and CSS3.

I'm also not really excited because I wasted my winter break. I had a mental list of things to accomplish and they I, well, never got accomplished around to starting them. Realistically, a mental list already proves that those things were never going to get done since I didn't write them down or schedule them in so I already doomed myself to failure.

My "mental" to do list:
- camp shirt from FD 50
- a buttload of little sewing projects in the sample book from FD 50 (Basic Apparel Construction)
- a few little sewing projects in the sample book from FD 54 (Apparel Manufacturing)
- fix the ugly drawings from FD 44 (Fashion Drawing) and continue practicing
- blanket and matching pillow for my nephew, Cardin
- blanket for my niece, Maylinh
- minor alterations to my clothes (missing buttons, attaching a new zipper, hemming, etc.)

The reason for the to do list was last semester was so overwhelming--I took five classes and two of  of them were sewing classes--that near the end of the semester, I either half-assed my way through the rest of my projects or turned in incomplete assignments.  And, that bothered me!  Therefore, I wanted to use the time off to finish the projects so that I could continue improving my skills and learn stuff that I didn't get to because of the work I left unfinished or that were un-attempted.  Add to that gifts and personal projects that I also wanted to start/finish.

Unfortunately, it didn't bother me enough to get my ass out of bed or in front of the sewing machine to get my shit done.

Also, I also didn't get to document my "journey" through my first semester like I had planned and, which, was supposed to be the basis for this blog.

Despite some setbacks and disappointments, I still kicked butt! I got straight As! And, I can draw!

Final project (inspired by Wildfox Couture) for FD 44: Fashion Drawing

I'm so ready to kick butt today, tomorrow, and for the rest of the semester!

I've got a crush on...

Eva Franco!

Pretty, whimsical prints with retro silhouettes to wear for any occasion. I want all her dresses!  But I am definitely not in love with the price tags. I guess I'll have to scour Ebay or wait for sales on Modcloth.

Below are some of my top picks:

WEDDINGS AND COCKTAILS

Claudette Dress- Tuxedo Lace $395

Kora Dress - Gold Crush $370

Fashionably Pixelated Dress $118.99 (ON SALE!)

Europa Dress- Ginger Drop $345

All these dresses are very 20s, 30s, and 40s. Love those eras. The styles are very elegant and classic.

JUST CUZ
Dinner Mint Dress $67.99 (ON SALE)
This looks very comfortable and I cannot resist anything mint. It's so cheap right now on Modcloth, but, sadly, sold out in my size.

Isis Pleated Front Color-Block Dress $292.92

Pretty pastels!

Fames and Fortune Dress $244.99
Who doesn't love this print, especially if you wear glasses? You can easily punch up this dress with a colorful belt, scarf, retro handbag, crazy jewelry, and textured tights.

Thing-a-ma-Sprig Dress $242.95

Cute print! The blue trim keeps it interesting.

MY FAVES

Audrey Dress - Rome $345
I love anything black and white and the colorblocking is great! The bodice keeps the rest of the dress from looking too referee or prison-like.

Housewarming My Heart Dress $125.99 (ON SALE)

The print is too adorable! The off-center bow belt gives it a pop of color. Another one sold out in my size! =(

Wallpaper Party Dress $249.99
Pleats are always fun! The print is interesting and the color combo is fantastic. Plus, I love anything coral.

 OTHER STUFF

Lima Pant- Gold Crush $348

I love to wear patterned, textured, and/or printed pants because it's so unexpected. Plus, they can fancy up a casual top.

Glen Skirt- Sail-la-Vie (SOLD OUT)

Yes, more coral and pleats. Although, skirts this long and full tend to make me look stumpy.

What designers are you IN LOVE with right now?

I love my....

BCBG "Bri" jacket.

Although I got it on sale, it was over $100.  Expensive for a useless jacket that's faux leather and won't keep me warm.  I love it anyway!  The details (see below) make it fabulous!

Perforated faux leather design and drape-y front

Off center zipper closure for asymmetrical look.

Scalloped hem.

Quarter sleeves. Stretchy fabric for movement and comfort

Pockets!

What do you LOVE right now?

It's official!

My blog and (future) brand will henceforth be called, I'm a loner, Dottie, a rebel.

I know it's long and cumbersome with all the commas, but it's a lot better than the previous title, which we will never speak of again.
